Artist statement
I work mostly with oil paints, acrylic paints, digital art, and colored pencils. I enjoy trying to convey illustrative and impressionistic styles in the landscapes, architecture, interior spaces, and animals I recreate. My goal is to create artworks that cause my viewers to pause and reflect on how it connects with them possibly through memories or present emotions.
My work is heavily influenced by what I can realistically do with my little kids in the room. Some days I focus on large paintings in my home studio (that’s also our play room) and other days it’s colored pencils on the front porch while my kids play. I enjoy using a wide range of mediums so I really value having flexibility in what I can work on.
I tend to combine impressionistic art techniques with elements of realism and illustration to create artwork that is textured and dynamic. I am drawn to natural forms and earthy colors.
I hope my artwork reminds us to be mindful of who and what are in our environments, to breathe deeply, and to open our eyes to the natural beauty in our everyday lives.
